As a Primary Engineer within the National Substations design team, you will have an opportunity to develop designs for brownfield and greenfield substations across Australia with following voltages (MV/HV/EHV).
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertaking designs of primary systems, including substation layouts, high-voltage equipment (i.e. Transformers, CB’s VT’s, CT’s, Disconnectors, Cap Banks, NER’s), busbar configurations, bay layouts, conduit and duct arrangements, cable and conductor fittings, earthing systems, lightning protection and materials lists.
- Ensure compliance with agreed scope and relevant standards such as AS 2067, AS 62271, IEC 60076,
- Undertake insulation coordination, short circuit forces, earthing and cable ampacity rating studies.
- Perform COM reviews and workshops (constructability, operability, maintainability)
- Participate in Safety in Design (SiD) workshops and maintain design risk registers.
- Undertake quality assurance reviews and make certain all deliverables are checked and approved prior to issue.
- Deliver primary design outputs at various stages: Preliminary Design (30%), Developed Design (60%), Detailed Design (80%), and Issued for Construction (IFC).
- Coordinate with secondary (protection & control), civil, structural, and SCADA disciplines to ensure alignment and accuracy.
- Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
- Manage and respond to request for information (RFI’s)
- Effectively manage outcomes within budget and project programme constraints whilst maintaining high levels of technical performance
- Identify and manage scope variations according to client and/or project requirements
