Job Description:

The AI Opportunity Lead identifies and shapes promising AI opportunities for practical technology validation at Hitachi Energy. The role connects technology signals with plausible Hitachi Energy scenarios, coordinates focused validation work, builds relevant partnerships, and synthesizes evidence into recommendations. It keeps a visible, lightweight validation pipeline and keeps the team focused on practical evidence rather than generic demand intake.

How you will make an impact

• Proactively explore AI capabilities (GenAI, agentic AI, selected ML, models, services, supporting patterns) to find opportunities worth validating, before formal demand necessarily exists.
• Work with the engineers to turn promising technologies into plausible scenarios and focused validation questions, and separate confirmed demand from opportunity hypotheses.
• Build working relationships with DAAI teams, Hitachi Group peers, strategic vendors, startups and approved suppliers, following procurement, confidentiality and security processes.
• Run proportionate pre-assessments of technology, vendor capability and practical constraints to decide what merits hands-on validation. Coordinate selected validations across the team (sequencing, evidence synthesis, demonstrations, next-step recommendations) without line-management authority, and maintain the pipeline with the Global Technology Validation Manager.
• Follow new AI releases and tools, and decide what deserves a closer look.
• Try tools hands-on, including quick prototypes and AI-assisted coding.
• Talk to colleagues in other AI teams and to business contacts about real problems.
• Meet vendors, startups or Hitachi Group peers about possible joint work.

Your Background

• 3+ years in innovation, technology opportunity development, product or programmer work, AI, or strategy in a technology setting.
• Good working knowledge of current AI, and hands-on use of the tools.
• Experience with Microsoft 365, Azure and Azure DevOps.
• A degree in computer science, data science, engineering or business informatics.
• Good working knowledge of current AI, and hands-on use of the tools.
